Born on February 8, 1974, Liberty was gifted to President Ford as an 8-month-old puppy by his daughter Susan and photographer David Hume Kennerly in 1974. Bred by Ann (Avis) Friberg of Mount Vernon, Washington, Liberty quickly became a fixture in the White House, often photographed alongside the president in various settings, including the Oval Office and the South Lawn.
