Descended from a long line of Missourians, Cheryl Harness was born in Maywood, California during President Truman's administration. Her family moved to Independence shortly after Harry and Bess returned home from the White House and Cheryl has lived here ever since. After a career working in commercial art and illustration and freelancing as an illustrator and sculptor for various clients, Cheryl took to writing and illustrating picture books. Over the years she has had nearly 50 published by Random House, Simon & Schuster, and the National Geographic Society—including a series of truly beautiful American historical picture books.
