Ike's life straddled a remarkable period in American history-- he was born the year the Western Frontier officially was closed and he died the same year that man walked on the moon.

This is an Eisenhower Dollar (1971, 72, or 74) coin in a plastic case with a picture of Eisenhower on the front of the case.

1971 was the first year the Eisenhower Dollar was issued and, like the 1972 and 1974 coins, features on the obverse the profile of the 34th President and on the reverse a design in commemoration of the Apollo XI moon landing, based on the mission patch.
